What is Oramorph?
It is a strong painkiller. It’s used to treat severe pain, for example after an operation or a serious injury, or pain from cancer or a heart attack.It’s also used for other types of long-standing pain when weaker painkillers no longer work.

Take it exactly as your doctor tells you to. Depending on the reason you are taking it, your doctor may advise that you take regular doses or take it only when you need it for pain relief. Make sure you know which is right for you. Your dose will be printed on the label of the pack to remind you. Slow-release tablets of morphine should be swallowed whole with a drink of water – do not break or crush the tablets. Slow-release capsules can generally either be swallowed whole, or alternatively, opened and the contents sprinkled on to soft food such as yoghurt. Check the label on your pack for further information about how you should take your tablets/capsules.
How fast does Oramorph take effect?
Quick acting oramorph starts to work after about 30 minutes and usually lasts for about 4 hours. It is used to control breakthrough pain as it works quickly. It may be given in regular doses when your doctor is working out how much morphine is needed to control your pain.
Will oramorph always relieve my pain completely?
Although oramoprh is a very good pain killer, it is not helpful for all types of pain. Other treatments may be needed and suggested
by your doctor or nurse.
